The Youth Tutoring Program (YTP) is a great service to students in Seattle area low-income housing communities. Each week, our tutors play a significant role in helping students along the journey of achieving their true potential and accomplishing dreams they have been told are unrealistic.
We do this by contributing to the skills and competencies necessary for success; we provide a safe learning environment where questions are encouraged and mistakes are seen as opportunities for growth; and we move beyond tutoring to also foster relationships as mentors and role models who are there to support each individual student through a developmental process.
The results from YTP speak for themselves. Students increase their grades, stay motivated, develop key competencies and skills, cultivate a genuine interest in course material, and go on to complete high school with plans for college and a promising future.
However, providing just one YTP student with tutoring costs us nearly $1,500 annually, and we enroll over 450 students each year, free of charge. Thus, during this October, we are holding our Readathon Fund Drive where students compete in fun reading events while YTP supporters raise funds to help the program thrive. Donations will be accepted from October 19th through the 29th, and any contribution you can make is phenomenally appreciated!
